A Student's Guide to Understanding & Navigating Technology

Technology isn’t just helping us glide through the day smoothly it is also helping us pioneer frameworks to bring the future closer.

I know you have heard about Bill Gates. The Man who co-founded Microsoft, one of the most successful tech companies in the world. Bill gates, a software engineer who is currently one of the richest men in the world built a platform of over a 95Million users as of 2020. You have also heard about Elon Musk, CEO of Telsa and SpaceX, Elon Musk is working to revolutionize transportation both on Earth and in Space.

You are a student and these people and many other inspires you and you want to start the Journey towards exploring technology and creating things that would redefine the world through innovation. This is for you.

First, let's understand what Technology is? Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life. It’s the act of putting knowledge into practical use to solve problems or invent useful tools. An example of technology was during the Stone Age when the first knife or shovel was made from a piece of stone or obsidian or the Internet which has made up-to-date information available to anyone with access in a matter of moments and provides real-time information about events around the world.

Today in our fast-growing world, Technology has shown to be incredibly useful in the way we communicate, interact with one another, go about our activities, and finding knowledge even entertainment. Technology arguably has become a necessity that anyone can almost not do without using in a day.

Technology isn’t just helping us glide through the day smoothly it is also helping us pioneer frameworks to bring the future closer. It is helping us reimagine ways to solve problems without exposing ourselves to risk like Global warming. It’s helping us stay in touch with our loved ones even when they are thousands of miles away.

As a Student, How then can you start the Journey towards exploring and understanding Technology?

  • Curiosity

Curiosity is the desire to know, an interest leading to inquiry about something. It widens the mind and opens one up to different possibilities. Curiosity would drive you into asking questions and seeking knowledge in unknown areas. It will put you in a position to actively learn. When you are curious about Technology, you will begin to ask a lot of questions that will help you find answers beyond the surface. It will help you discover why things are the way they are and how they can be better.

  • Study Wide

Before you narrow down to specific interests and fields. It is important to study and learn a few things about a wide range of topics. Without learning the basics of mathematics, individuals cannot calculate precisely; Without knowing arts, individuals may lose many chances to appreciate the beauty of nature; Without understanding history, people cannot know how the human culture developed during the past 5 thousand years. Therefore, learning a variety of subjects can benefit you in many unexpected ways. “Taking a variety of classes allows students to identify their passion and career calling—they just need to keep an eye out for the signs,” says Brian Collisson, Ph.D.

  • Use the Internet

Access to the Internet is fundamental to achieving this vision for the future. It can improve the quality of education in many ways. It opens doorways to a wealth of information, knowledge, and educational resources, increasing opportunities for learning in and beyond the classroom. The Internet is known as the world of knowledge. Everything or any kind of content related to your interest in the study is available on the internet.

  • Find Mentors and Community

A mentor is usually a trusted adviser with more experience than you. As such, most mentors will have already achieved much of the success their mentees seek. Thus, a mentor is in the perfect position to provide real-life insight into how to help you achieve your goals. By sharing their own experiences, they will be able to steer you away from making costly mistakes—ultimately, speeding up your ability to advance in your field and providing encouragement and feedback along the way. With community, participation comes empowerment, knowledge sharing, and tons of other opportunities.

  • Don’t Stop Learning, Doing, and Evolving

And once you start the Journey don’t stop. Continue to learn and to do. Update your knowledge bank now and then so you can stay relevant and remember failure is a postponed success, keep ideating, keep improving, and don’t stop being curious.
